<p><strong>Beyond Organic National Conference 2012 | Growing Organic Families</strong></p>
<p>We  had a wonderful time in Orlando Florida at the Beyond Organic National  Convention. Now I could go on and on about the new food soon to be  shipped or the 15+&nbsp; new foods coming out this year, but I would like to  focus this blog on one photo.</p>

<p>This may look like any old picture, but read on.&nbsp; Many stories are in this picture.&nbsp; My story and my husband (Dr. Sean Matteo) started with a patient of ours handing us a book called the Maker&#8217;s Diet by Jordan Rubin, about 5 years ago. Last June we heard our Chiropractic Community rumbling with excitement about a Company called Beyond Organic.&nbsp; Hmm, I thought,&nbsp; &quot;where do I know that name : Jordan Rubin?&quot;&nbsp; Dr. Sean goes to our library and pulls out The Maker&#8217;s Diet.&nbsp; More research lead to us exploring Beyond Organic at the Founder&#8217;s Conference in July of 2011.&nbsp; With much excitement we found out that yes it is network marketing.&nbsp; What could be better?&nbsp; Receiving a &quot;thank you&quot; check at the end of the month for eating food that goes Beyond USDA Organic standards.&nbsp; So yes we signed up under a fellow Chiropractor.&nbsp; Well, to my surprise that person was not a good fit, so I hunted for an upline that was a good fit for us to move forward.&nbsp; Well I found a couple that was perfect.&nbsp; As we preceded through launch with this company in November, we found ourselves getting very excited to taste the food. At the same time we had neighbors move in two doors down from us. Our children played and had a good time and their mom and I started talking more.&nbsp; BUT not about Beyond Organic.&nbsp; Although we had so many things in common, I hesitated to talk.&nbsp; Why?&nbsp; Well I have learned a lot since Jan. 2012.&nbsp; Why? Because she home schools 5 children, and her husband, Dan Vivirito works 2 full time jobs.&nbsp; So why was I quiet?&nbsp; I think I prejudged them and thought &quot;they don&#8217;t have the time or money for this&quot;.&nbsp; Well to my surprise one of her daughters saw the &quot;Organic truck&quot; come as my 3 children say, and she ran and told her mom.&nbsp; Wouldn&#8217;t you know it, Kristine was researching Beyond Organic in the summer of 2011, but had to put it on the back burner for other reasons.</p>
<p>&nbsp;So far what have we learned 1. A book lead us to do more research</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 2. We switched Groups and Sponsors</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 3. I assumed someone had no money or time before I asked.</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 4. And our two families make up 8 children.</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Now Keep Reading!</p>
<p>&nbsp;So now, our direct sponsor has 4 children. Three families 12 children and all of them went to the Beyond Organic Conference.&nbsp; Why don&#8217;t you see them?&nbsp; This picture was taken at Marriott World Convention Center, at a &quot;Meet and Greet&quot; from our top leaders, in their hotel room.&nbsp; Our family arrived in Disney on Sunday and Kristine, Dan and family arrived on Monday just a couple of hours before this picture. We, (the Matteo&#8217;s and Vivirito&#8217;s) were staying inside Disney World at a Disney Resort, and we drove over to the Marriott .&nbsp; There we met our sponsors Mike and Laura Melvin, who we had never met in person before, but felt we had known them forever.&nbsp; So we left all 12 children in one hotel room, ages from 18 months to 16 years old, so we could take a elevator ride to meet Marsha and Andy Inman and the rest of our team.</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; What else have learned?:</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 5. How is it possible that we never met these people before and&nbsp;yet we feel so comfortable?&nbsp; Social Media of course, that is how I found Mike and Laura.</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 6. All our families have such a strong passion for this company, that when we can&#8217;t find babysitters we just bring our children along!</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Keep Reading!</p>
<p>The Best part, when we got back to the room, all the children were taking votes and comparing their favorite Beyond Organic Foods.&nbsp; Seriously, isn&#8217;t that amazing?!&nbsp; Children talking about food that goes Beyond Organic! They were talking about junk food they were having an open discussion about Organic Food!&nbsp; Don&#8217;t you wish first that you had this knowledge as a child.&nbsp; It isn&#8217;t because we&#8217;re doctors that my children can talk about good fats, bad fats, CLA, Omega&#8217;s,&nbsp; A1 or A2 Cows, recipes that they have learned for a life time, Whey, Organic Farming, Farmer&#8217;s Markets, and the list goes on and on.&nbsp; It&#8217;s because we are teaching them.&nbsp; Some parents might say, &quot;I don&#8217;t care to know all that&quot;.&nbsp; Then WHO is going to teach your Children?&nbsp; Mom&#8217;s and Dad&#8217;s, this is your responsibility!&nbsp; Starting with the basics is what we teach in our home, and thanks to Beyond Organic we can do that.&nbsp; I can tell you their is not a school out there that can teach you what we have learned in the past few months.&nbsp; And I can truly say my children run to tell their friends what we are having for dinner.&nbsp; Children talk, and they have started their own knowledge bank in their heads, of the <span class="stream _p _pl1 _pd55672" id="view"><span class="mtxt">do&#8217;s and don&#8217;t's,</span></span> of food.&nbsp; Also they are being exposed to network marketing at the highest level.&nbsp; They now understand the &quot;extra&#8217;s&quot; in our family expenses are coming from Beyond Organic &quot;through a thank you check&quot;.&nbsp; There is Plenty of room for more families to join our Mission, to: <strong>Live, Learn, and Lead.</strong></p>
<p>P.S. The gentleman on the end, well that&#8217;s Colt Mortan, after we got back to the room, he was sending pictures of our children to his wife, because he couldn&#8217;t believe how Awesome it was to have so many children in one small space!</p>

<p>A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the &#8220;in Body, Mind and Spirit Conference&#8221; in Atlanta, Georgia.  It was held at Victory World Church in Norcross, which turned out to be the perfect venue for the event.  The church is only 21 years old but manages to have over 6,000 people in attendance for church every weekend.  The founders of the church, Dennis and Colleen Rouse are wonderful dynamic people and it was a pleasure to hear Colleen preach.</p>
<p>The keynote speaker for the event was multiple <em>New York Times Best selling Author Jordan Rubin.</em>  Jordan founded<em> Garden of Life</em> Nutritional company 14 years ago and most recently founded<em> Beyond Organic,</em> the first company in the United States to ship USDA Organic foods to your door. <em> Jordan Rubin</em>  is also a Naturopathic Physician.   During the event I had the pleasure of meeting <em>Jordan Rubin</em>, and I was able to interview him as well about his company <a title="Beyond Organic Business " href="http://www.seanandhollymatteo.net" target="_blank"><em>Beyond Organic</em>. </a> I asked him why <em>Beyond Organic</em> is the perfect complement to <em>Chiropractic</em> care.  His answer should interest any physician really because he points out how<a title="Beyond Organic Making it a Business for You" href="http://www.seanandhollymatteo.com/beyond-organic-2/beyond-organic-making-it-a-business-for-you/" target="_blank"> <em>Beyond Organic</em></a> can help patients and at the same time introduce another stream of revenue to their business.  Please enjoy the video below:</p>

<p>We all know Tacos is a family favorite for most. It can be a go to meal, for a quick dinner right? Being a Chiropractor and a mom of three small children, that is how I think: First is it healthy, second is it quick. I buy almost all <em>Organic</em>, but after I learn more and more, I have started to go beyond the <em>Organic</em> mindset. So this was my first take on <a title="Beyond Organic What Does it mean? " href="//http://www.seanandhollymatteo.com/beyond-organic-2/beyond-organic…t-does-it-mean/ " target="_blank"><em>Beyond Organic</em></a> Tacos.</p>
<p>First I bought the Garden of Eatin Taco Dinner Kits. Which is the best I could find at our Kroger. We do not have a Trader Joe&#8217;s or Whole Foods like store here on Hilton Head Island or in Bluffton, South Carolina.</p>
<p>Next I took my <em>Beyond Organic Beef</em> and Browned it with some Organic Coconut Oil</p>
<p>Added in some of the Taco Seasoning that came with the kit, and added in a pinch of fresh Basil. I have made my own seasonings before, which I keep in a container, but today I did use the packet.</p>
<p>Next I added in two tablespoons of Raw Honey, for sweetness. My children do not like food too spicy, so to tone it down, Honey does the trick. No sugar.</p>
<p>So it looks like this when it is done:</p>

<p>Now Before I go any further, I will tell you this meat was the best  Organic Grass Fed Meat, I had ever tasted. As I was cooking, I of course was tasting it. The First thing I had noticed was the meat tasted different than the store bought grass fed beef. <em>Beyond Organic&#8217;s Beef</em> seemed to have a softer smoother texture and melted in your mouth.</p>

<p>My Children Love <em>Suero Viv.</em> When our <em>Beyond Organic</em> box arrived from the &#8220;Organics Truck&#8221; (FedEx) my children helped me open the box, and they proceeded to have a taste test.  All three of my children then decided to have a neighborhood taste test.  The verdict on the 3 flavors:  4 loved the raspberry lemonade, 3 loved the citrus, and 2 loved the orange cinnamon.  Dr. Sean and I are split too, I love the Raspberry lemonade and Dr. Sean Loves the Orange Cinnamon.  Since opening our boxes our household has <em>Suero Viv</em> just about everyday. They come in 16 oz bottles as shown below.  Of course my children do not drink the whole 16 oz bottle.  Finally an alternative to sports drinks full of sugar, nasty chemicals and colored dyes.</p>

<p>3.  Flushing the Kidneys:  The Whey helps the Kidneys flush out toxins that are &#8220;hanging&#8221; out in the blood.  Thereby helping other organ systems to function better.</p>
<p>4.  Regenerating and encouraging growth of &#8220;Good&#8221; Bacteria, which are also known as <em>probiotics</em> in the Intestines.  The Lactose in the <em>whey</em> inhibits the &#8220;bad&#8221; destructive <em>bacteria</em> and helps to encourage growth of new &#8220;good&#8221; bacteria in the gut.  When our bacteria is balanced we are sick less and our immune system is strong.  But if you ever are on medications that destroy your flora such as antibiotics, I always recommend using  organic yogurt and now Amasai (TM) and all the <em>Beyond Organic</em> foods, to help rebuild and restore the normal flora.  Why?  Because the antibiotic attacks all <em>bacteria,</em> &#8220;good&#8221; and &#8220;bad&#8221;.  Therefore if you don&#8217;t replenish the &#8220;good&#8221; then you tend to get better after the antibiotic is done and then two weeks later or a month later get sick again, and you are back on antibiotics,  and so on and so forth.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;ve been following us over the past several months, there&#8217;s a good chance that you&#8217;ve heard us sing the praises of Beyond Organic.  While the company produces some of the highest quality organic foods available in the United States, which they ship to your door, it is important to know that there are two other ways to experience <em>Beyond Organic.</em></p>
<p>There is a strong mission aspect to <em>Beyond Organic</em> as well as a viable business opportunity.   Founder Jordan Rubin makes it very clear that his faith is a driving force in his life. Whether you become a preferred customer or a mission marketer you will have the opportunity to donate $10 or more per month with their &#8220;Give a meal, Get a meal&#8221; program.  You can choose one of 3 wonderful charities as the recipient of your donation, and in return <em>Beyond Organic</em> will give you $10 credit to put towards your own food order!  This is something that&#8217; s never been done in this manner before.</p>
<p>Dr. Holly and I are mission marketers for <em>Beyond Organic</em> .  We are pursuing this as another stream of income, and having more success than we have in the previous 10 years of network marketing.  There are two main points when considering a network marketing company:  Leadership and Product.  The quality of the product has already proven itself.  And so has the leadership.  We have regular conversations with all the leaders in our organization.  I&#8217;ve even gotten to know a major league baseball player who has chosen <em>Beyond Organic</em> as alternative source of revenue.  Jordan Rubin himself engages people regularly on Facebook.  The compensation is the most generous that we&#8217;ve ever seen by far.  I&#8217;ve worked very hard for other companies with little or no return.  That is not the case here.</p>
<p>The main objection that we&#8217;ve heard from a few people about<em> Beyond Organic</em> is&#8221;that&#8217;s too expensive,&#8221; or &#8220;I can&#8217;t afford that.&#8221;  This is a big misconception.   You may end up spending a dollar more for a product that is far superior in quality and hugely beneficial for your body rather than detrimental to it. No other Company has GrassFed (TM) and Grass Finished (TM) food.  All you have to do is share the products with other people.  Before you know it you could have a nice revenue steam coming in.  <strong>Does Whole Foods or Trader Joe&#8217;s pay you to shop?</strong>  We&#8217;ve added two pictures  as an example to show how closely priced our foods are. <p>Our Green finished beef is less than a dollar more per pound more than a comparable USDA organic beef.  The same goes for the green finished hot dogs.  They are less than a dollar more than a comparable package of uncured <em>organic</em> hot dogs.  When you factor in that you actually get paid to eat these products, you can come out ahead financially.  But that&#8217;s only if you come in as a mission marketer.  You can actually get PAID to eat delicious, organic foods!  What a concept!</p>

<p>This video is about taking some <em>time for yourself</em>. So many of us are so busy with  raising a family, jobs, organizations etc. That we forget to make<em> time</em> for ourselves. Many patients of mine  that are older have often told me that taking <em>time</em> for their self was the one thing that they  never did and wish they had. It could be anything that makes you feel good. Exercise, art, reading  and or mix it up a little during the week etc. Make it fun and relaxing, but get &#8220;your me time&#8221;.</p>

<p>I use exercise as my <em>me time</em>, because it make me feel good. This particular  video, I was out for a walk with our puppy and enjoying some fresh air. Other days it could be weight lifting or yoga. My family life is just like yours, wake the children up and get them ready for school, breakfast etc., it feels like we all run run run all day long, and then before we know it, the day is done and we are exhausted mentally, emotionally and physically.  Everything is scheduled during the week, so I do have to find my &#8220;<em>me time</em>&#8220;, when ever I can. Early in the morning, or later at night when the kids go to bed, which could me 9pm. Taking the <em>time</em> to enjoy your life, makes you a happier person, emotionally, physically and mentally. And during the everyday stress of it all you can bet your mind will look forward to that<em> &#8220;me time&#8221;</em>, but if You don&#8217;t create  that <em>time</em>,no one will for You. Just don&#8217;t wait and regret that special <em>time!</em> I can tell you, your children will become more in tune with you and recognize when you didn&#8217;t have that &#8220;me time&#8221; . Explain to your children what you are doing, and how it&#8217;s going to make you feel. simple things like &#8221; you know how mommy is grouchy sometimes, well this is going to make me less grouchy&#8221;.  If your a single mom,  or a mom with a traveling husband or he is gone all day working, force yourself to<em> find the time</em>, ask a neighbor to watch your children for 20 min and take a walk, again waking up early or after the kids go to bed, but <em>find that special time</em> because Life is Stressful and we all need a Mental Health Break.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p><strong><strong>Visualization &#8211; The Zen of Exercises</strong></strong></p>
<p>As a Doctor of Chiropractic, patients come to me to help them with their <em>exercise</em> program, but many are already avid <em>exercisers</em> that come in for preventive care. And of course that also means helping the body stay &#8220;tuned up&#8221; and their nervous and muscular systems firing at it&#8217;s full potential, during preparation for an event or a new exercise program. So it&#8217;s not uncommon to hear and help their sports/<em>exercise</em> injuries.</p>
<p>&#8220;There I am,” a very fit patient is saying, “out on my five-mile run, motoring my way up a steep incline. Suddenly, I feel a throbbing pain in the middle of my right shin. Oh, no,  I think, not again.”</p>

<p>As things turned out, the patient recovered from the shin splints<sup>1</sup> quickly, but he knew he’d dodged a bullet. “Why did I get hurt?” he wanted to know. “I wasn’t doing anything wrong.…What can I do to make sure this doesn’t happen again?” All very good questions. One answer is – basically − we need a plan for<em> exercise</em>. A powerful strategy that helps us train smart and train safe. When you’re working this way − training smart and safe − then you can also train hard.<br />
<strong>Training safe and smart</strong> means paying attention to what’s happening in your body as you do your workout. “Paying attention” is a learned skill. It requires focus and repetition. Visualization is an important part of focus ─ and, if you’re working on visualization, you’re definitely paying attention. Yoga and Mediation help with  visualization, lets you tap new found flexibly both physical and mental and should be part of your <em>exercise</em> program. Visualization enhances the mind-body connection. When you “see” your muscles working in your “mind’s eye”, the “wiring” between your brain and your muscles grows. More nerve-muscle connections are made, and your muscles get smarter and stronger. It’s a remarkable process. <strong>This goes for any one new to exercising or a long time exerciser. </strong></p>

<p>You can visualize when you’re running, too.<br />
•    Visualize an erect, fluid spine and strong abdominal muscles.<br />
•    Your head is upright, you’re looking forward and slightly down, and your chest is open.<br />
•    Your arms are active yet relaxed, and your shoulders sit comfortably on your rib cage.<br />
•    Visualize a long stride, a soft landing, and a strong push off, with your leg kicking straight behind you.</p>
<p>Training smart means <strong>trusting your instincts</strong>, rather than listening to your ego. This is a tough one. At the time, it seems so important to do that last rep. Now, you can do that last rep if you maintain your form. Form is everything. If you have to sacrifice form in order to do those last few reps, you may get an unexpected, unwelcome result.</p>
<p>Likewise in running. When your form breaks down, that’s a signal to slow down and recover your good mechanics. If your training is done with attention to proper, effective form, you’ll be more likely, when the time comes, to run a good race at a good pace.</p>
<p>And, of course, we want to do these things to be healthy and well. The American College of Sports Medicine<sup>2</sup> states, “Resistance training, particularly when incorporated into a comprehensive fitness program, reduces the risk factors associated with coronary heart disease and non–insulin-dependent diabetes, prevents osteoporosis, promotes weight loss and maintenance, improves dynamic stability and preserves functional capacity, and fosters psychological well-being.”</p>
<p>As in much of life, there’s a fine line between training hard and over training. Remember, the benefit of training is for the long term. <em>Exercise</em> smart and listen to your body, don&#8217;t try to push to hard or it will back fire.</p>

<p>Many people have kicked off their New Years&#8217; Resolution, and of course one of them may be back to exercising.  Maybe you haven&#8217;t quite got there yet, after all New Year&#8217;s fell on the weekend, and many of us are just finishing up packing up the Christmas decorations, which may take time away from working out.  So sit down and be real with yourself, are you ready to start <em>exercising</em>?</p>

<p>I am not going to sit here and tell you, &#8220;you should be like me&#8221; because your not!  So for you, think about how you feel?  Do you feel over weight? Or just out of shape? These require two completely different <em>exercise</em> programs.  What are your goals? Do you want to <em>feel</em> Healthy?  Get more tone?  Have more Muscle?  More flexible? Slim down?  Has your doctor of <em>Chiropractic</em> or Medical Doctor given you reasons to get in Shape?  <em>Chiropractor</em>? Oh yes, think about your spine, internal organs, muscles, joints, from your head to your toes.  In fact, I would see a <em>Chiropractor</em> regularly during your transformation to your goals.  Why because muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, all  need to be looked at by someone who knows the body as a whole, and as we exercise your body makes minor and major shifts.  As this happens, ligaments, tendons, joints, bones make new adjustments in the body, and some just don&#8217;t &#8220;feel&#8221; so good, then we back away from our exercise program or say, &#8220;I just need to take a break, it will feel better soon.&#8221;  So set your mindset up right, with proper goals to fit YOU!</p>
<p><strong>So where to go next to meet these Exercise goals?</strong></p>
<p><strong>Are you a Gym person?</strong>  Have you ever been to a Gym before? Most can be intimidating , but really after your in the door, it usually is a welcoming comfortable experience.  Are you a programs, classes person?  If you don&#8217;t know try some and see!  Do you want to try Yoga or Pilates?  Not sure take a class and try it! Do you want or need a personal trainer?  If you have no clue what you are doing , need some guidance, or you need someone to keep you on track, talk to some people and find a good one.  So use this as a check list of yes&#8217; and no&#8217;s and call the gym.  It&#8217;s January and plenty of Gym&#8217;s are running specials.  Ask for annual Membership prices, vs. being charged monthly, which is a new trend being offered in gyms.  Ask and then go take a tour of the facility? A Tour?  Yes, walk through get a feel, does it smell?  Is it clean? How about the <em>Mean</em> age or the Clients?  Showers?  Child Friendly? Babysitting?  Do your friends go there?  I have found friends in a class is good, but friends around the workout equipment holds up my workout plans.  Unless it&#8217;s a Gym buddy and you are meeting them there only for workouts.  Sometimes it&#8217;s someone who you get to know because you and that person happen to be there at that same time, those tend to be great, because you are there to help or spot each other not to chit chat about life.  Lots of Questions?  Mark them all down.  Set your Goals and right them down.</p>

<p><strong>Or are you a workout at home person?</strong> There is a plethora of home work out equipment, DVD&#8217;s and of course good old walking or running shoes.  Home workouts are Great for people with busy schedules, children, not enough money for a gym membership, want more freedom, etc.  Other things to think about?  Do you have the room?  In a perfect world most would want a &#8220;Workout Room&#8221; , but really moving the coffee table, putting on those tennis shoes, grabbing workout bands, barbells, weights, and a mat is all you may need. Most of our patients that built that workout room, say it was a waste of money. Runners, Walkers?  How are you shoes?  Do you need a new pair? Please don&#8217;t go cheap on these.  But don&#8217;t get sucked in to the hype of the big brands.  Those tend not to be the best choices.  There are many specialty stores (if you&#8217;re local Savannah, Bluffton, and Hilton Head).  Another important fact: If you use a DVD series, you must be able to push play.  Yes that is the hardest thing!  LOL, But really it is.  Checking what&#8217;s on the TV or Facebook tends to be more fun then pushing that play button.  But once you push it, you are on your way.  Sort of like the gym people, just getting in the parking spot and walking through those doors is the toughest part.  For the home workout people all the rules of getting healthy, loosing weight etc., still apply.  So think over your goals, set them, write them down, and get started today!</p>

<p>Over the last ten years of practice I&#8217;ve noticed certain seasonal patterns that, like clock work, show up every year right on time.  When you live in a region that is predominantly hot or warm most of the year, but still has a change of season, those colder few months can really have an impact on the local population.   Especially when the colder months are rather wintery.  For nine months of the year in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, almost all of peoples activities are done outside, exercising, beaching, boating, biking, sightseeing.  The list goes on, but when things get cold, people move indoors, and for the majority of people that I know, this means more time sitting at the computer and less time exercising and doing all those other things.  The aches and pains of winter are a direct result of this phenomenon.</p>
<p>The predominant complaint at this time of year is neck and shoulder pain (between the shoulder blades) which is due decreased exercise, atrophy of the core, neck and shoulder muscles, and much more time spent indoors, out of the sun and sitting at the computer.  During the summer I tend to see mostly low back complaints because people are exercising a lot, boating, golfing, gardening, playing sports, etc. <em><strong>Chiropractic</strong></em> plays a major role during any season, but just as important is the things you can do at home. Take a look at the pictures below to see an example of poor posture versus good posture at the computer.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s very important to have exercise in your daily routine, even when it&#8217;s cold outside.  When you&#8217;re at the computer, working and maintaining your core muscles is the most important thing.  Going through all the ranges of motion with your neck as a stretch is great on a daily basis.  Doing basic push ups or push ups on your knees can help relieve the pain between the shoulder blades.  and finally soaking in a hot bath with a lot (3 cups) of Epsom Salts is wonderful for to relieve muscular aches and pains.  Try to stay in for 30 minutes.  The pillow you sleep with is also extremely important.  Whether you sleep on your side or your back you must have a pillow that leaves your head in line with the rest of your body, making sure your spine is straight.  We don&#8217;t recommend sleeping on your stomach, it effects the nervous system and all your organs negatively.  Of course <strong><em>chiropractic care</em></strong> can provide more relief when done in conjunction with all these other suggestions.  For more information please visit our main website at <a title="Matteo Family Chiropractic" href="http://www.matteofamilychiropractic.com">http://www.matteofamilychiropractic.com. </a></p>

<p><strong>Beyond Organic Meat Sauce</strong></p>
<p>I like to cook and learning how to cook for my family with only the freshest of ingredients and Beyond Organic GrassFed (TM) is a joy! Show, magazine, or online, that can be applied to all of the Beyond Organic food.  The resources are limitless.   So no worries, just open up one of the resources and gather your family and learn how to cook Beyond Organic!</p>
<p>Knowing Green fed products have been shown to be higher in beta carotene (Vitamin A) and other antioxidant vitamins, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and omega-3 fatty acids.  Green fed products also tend to be lower in fat, cholesterol and calories.  As apposed to beef from cows that were fed 100% grain diet.</p>

<p><strong>Ingredients<br />
</strong>1 pound GreenFed ground beef<br />
2 14.5-ounce cans Italian-style diced tomatoes<br />
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce (I used all Organic diced, paste and sauce)<br />
1 6-ounce can tomato paste<br />
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil<br />
1 teaspoon minced garlic<br />
1 teaspoon dried oregano<br />
1 teaspoon dried basil<br />
½ teaspoon garlic powder<br />
¼ teaspoon thyme<br />
¼ teaspoon dried crushed red pepper<br />
½ teaspoon salt or Herbamare or mixed spice blend to taste (I did not use)</p>
<p>I like a sweeter sauce so I did add in 2 tablespoons of raw local honey</p>
<p>½ large onion, chopped, 1 tablespoon of Organic Butter</p>
<p>1 cup button mushrooms, washed and quartered (optional) I did not use</p>
<p>Use a whole grain spelt spaghetti or organic angel hair pasta</p>
<p>I did omit some of the ingredients, because I did this recipe for a Beyond Organic Tasting Event on Hilton Head Island and wanted the true taste of the Beef to come through. My recipe was doubled because I made enough for our family of 5 plus for the tasting.</p>
<p><strong>Directions:</strong><br />
Combine the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, olive oil, garlic, oregano, basil, garlic powder, thyme, dried red pepper and salt or honey,in a medium- or large-sized pot and bring to a slight boil. Reduce to low heat. In the meantime, sauté the onions and mushrooms in butter over medium heat until tender. Brown the beef in a large iron skillet, stirring until it crumbles. Drain the meat. Add the cooked meat, mushrooms and onions to the sauce. I moved the sauce to a crock pot to simmer for a couple of hours. I made a Organic Angel Hair pasta that our children love, and served it for Sunday dinner.</p>
